Jimmy the painting chimp draws hordes to Rio zoo

My news is about a chimpanzee. His name is Jimmy and he is 26 years old. This chimpazee painted a cardboard ar the Niteroi zoo in Rio de Janeiro on Monday (september 20th). Everyone was surprised when they saw this ape in action. Jimmy is very popular. Before, he was a circus chimpanzee but now he is retired. Seba, his trainer, discovered 3 weeks ago that Jimmy didn't like the toys that other chimps enjoyed. It's for this reason that Seba introduced him to the painting. Since this time, at least 30 minutes a day, Jimmy puts his brush into plastic paint bottles and he creates his art on a cardboard. Sometimes, when they are a lot of people in front of his cage, he doesn't want to paint. He is an artist. It's him who decides when he wants to paint. An exhibition for Jimmy the chimpanzee is already in the works. Since 3 weeks, Jimmy has been producing a painting each day!

Virtual fire by Thyra Hilden and Pio Diaz to rage in the Colosseum for art

Thyra Hilden and Piuz Diaz are two artists. They staged an art installation in Rome. They made a dramatic art spectacle which simulated a big fire in Rome's ancient Colosseum. In fact, they used video projections to create virtual flames. The Colosseum was a famous monument from the ancient world because there were a lot of spectacles like gladiator fights and animal shows. However, since the recent years, this monument was neglected. People are wondering how much time the Colosseum can still remain standing. "This monument is a very strong symbol of the Western culture" said Hilden. Thyra and Piuz decided to make this project because they wanted to show the cultural significance and at the same time, the fragility of the monument. In fact, they wanted to symbolize destruction and creation at the same time. This event happened during the last week-end (september 17th, 18th, 19th).
